Remember in a portrait every features has its importance. When a nose is made out of proportion, the whole portrait will look funny. Well there is whole art of caricature where you make features out of proportion.
Noses come in different shapes and sizes. And there is little variation in how to draw a girl’s nose or a nose of a child. But for now we will understand how to draw any nose in 6 simple steps.
Step 1 >> Draw Guidelines
Keep the eyes as reference and drawn the guidelines as shown. Remember the nose is drawn on the center line of the face and should fit between the eyes.
Step 2 >> Draw Contour of Nose
Draw the contour and wings of the nose. The width of the wings will be equal to half the horizontal line.
Step 3 >> Add curves to Contour
It will be easier at this point to add curves to the contour then you feel the nose coming to shape.
Step 4 >> Add Nostrils
You can now erase the guidelines and add nostrils.
Step 5 >> Add Shades
Create some shades using soft pencil e.g. 2B pencil, which will give volume to your drawing, making the nose look more realistic.
Step 6 >> Evaluate the Nose
Evaluate your drawing to make sure the nose doesn’t look too small or too big. The nose and the eyes are by far the most important parts of a portrait. Repeat the process if you are not satisfied with the drawing of nose.
